This refers to the article, “The Sheldon Pollock hold on Indian minds” (March 23) by Rajesh Singh. The so-called Western indologists cannot gauge the depth of logic, depicted in our sacred texts.
Interpretations must be logical and unbiased because the values that the Indian society adheres to is a direct derivation from the shastrartha, depicted in the Vedas, the Upanishads, and the Puranas. The sacred texts have a mass effect on the social mindset. If there is a subtle and devious change in the interpretation of these texts, it will have a direct bearing on the value system of Indian society.
