This refers to the report, “SC scraps NJAC, revives collegium” (October 17). The squashing of the National Judicial Appointments Commission Act is historic. The whining of the Government and Parliament, about how this is a blow to the people’s voice, is misleading and demeaning. It shows the coming together out of convenience, for the political class to carve for itself an opportunity to intervene in the judicial process.
It is time for the judiciary to move in and address other burning issue of our times reservation. While positive discrimination has lifted millions out of poverty and a life of indignation, to bring them on parity post-independence, the ensuing ‘deliberate discrimination’ of the unreserved students is creating another strata of dispossessed citizenry.
