This refers to the report, “Chopper scam hovers over House” (April 28). Despite the ruling party's castigation of the Congress for its alleged involvement in the AgustaWestland chopper deal, Congress president Sonia Gandhi seems unfazed. The Opposition's accusation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a meeting with his Italian counterpart and conspired against the Congress leadership in the controversial chopper contract by promising to release the Italian marines in return for evidence against the Gandhis, should be considered as a ploy to hit back at the BJP.

To eliminate the apprehensions of the common people, a top-level probe in this issue is crucial, failing which th people's confidence in the system will be eroded.
