Heartening start

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Step ahead in reforms” (October 18). Many States, ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party, have been progressive. If one looks carefully, these States have recorded high growth rates because they have efficient and stable regimes. Global investors have been attracted to these States because of the latter’s investor-friendly policies.

It would be a good idea if the new economic and labour reforms are kicked off in the BJP-ruled States for easy implementation, so that the results could be seen by the rest of the country. States governed by regional parties, especially those inimical to the BJP, may not cooperate due to their vote-bank policies. But eventually, they will also participate in reforms as public pressure builds on them.
