Sir — This is not the right time for the country to be embroiled in a political controversy over, of all things, the choice of dress worn by the Prime Minister. At a time when serious health concerns confront the country, we hardly have time to dwell on matters that have to do with personal choice. After the 2009 flu pandemic in India, and the Ebola scare, reports that swine flu epidemic has once again swept the country, and with fatal consequences, is alarming.
People in many of the affected areas moving around with protective masks in public places give one an indication of the endemic nature of the H1N1 virus. Though the National Crisis Management Committee has put in all efforts to ensure the availability of medication throughout the country, there is a feeling that much more should be done by the Government.
With instances of an intermittent shortage of the necessary drug and vaccine to quell the threat of the virus, authorities are hard-pressed to monitor and check the spread of the virus.
Where the countrymen across the world’s second-most populous nation should have been united in their fight against the dreaded virus, we come across as a nation of people which just want to further our self-interests through politicising even health matters.
