Sir — This refers to the article, “Making nation safe for women” (June 18) by Sutapa Mukkerjee. One aspect related to rape keeps getting overlooked. This is swift justice to the victim and harsh appropriate punishment to the rapist. Once certainty of punishment is established, incidents of rape will come down. The next is the quantum of punishment. It must be exemplary.
Pictures of before-after men impacted by chemical circumcision will act as a massive deterrent. Advertisements on television and in the print media and in areas where statistics show high rates of rape, should be released to terrify people into keeping away from rapes and other forms of sexual assault.
