Sir — This refers to the report, “MSY calls truce but CM defiant” (October 26). In a damage limitation exercise, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav has successfully prevailed upon his party leaders as well as members from the first family to bury the hatchet and gird them up for the election due early next year.
In fact, there can be no denial of the fact that the Samajwadi Party owes its political heights to the old guard while young Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has successfully shed his party’s luddite image, and this endeared him to the young generation of the electorate. But internecine bickering in the party, that too at a crucial moment when the political clock in Uttar Pradesh is ticking loud and fast, might push its monolithic vote-bank into a floating one, and have an adverse bearing on the party’s prospects in the ensuing Assembly election.
