Happy ending

Sir — This refers to the the editorial, “The art of the deal” (June 13). In fact, June 12, 2018, will go down in the annuals as this century’s most talked about day when a summit between the world’s two leading nuclear powers — the US and North Korea — eventually took place after a good deal of speculations and seesaw developments.

Better late than never, rightIJ With North Korean leader Kim Jong-un succeeding in eliciting an assurance of safety and security from US President Donald Trump in return for a complete denuclearisation of North Korean Peninsula and, thereby, keeping the likelihood of a Third World War at bay, the whole world heaved a sigh of relief.

However, the US has still not  lifted the economic sanctions imposed on North Korea. The deal, which was assisted by the direct involvement from South Korea and indirectly by China and Russia has been widely welcomed across the world, including India as with the historic event, over seven-decade-old hostilities between the two turned into a 70-minute long hospitality. After all, ‘all’s well that ends well’.
