Jawaharlal Nehru University has always been a hotbed of politics. It has been dominated by leftists who have revelled in raking up controversial issues. This time, the left’s fulminations have come in direct conflict with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, which was being egged on by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
It is significant that the Opposition stands united against a Government which is increasingly perceived as drifting towards authoritarianism. Both the BJP and the RSS are earning a bad name. I wonder why the Prime Minister is silent on issues of intolerance, including the present one. No wonder, three ABVP members have quit over the Government’s way of tackling the controversy.
