Hamburg meet

Published on:

Sir — The stand-off between India and China near the Sikkim border at Dokalam is unfortunate, but the pleasant manner in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping had an informal talk at the G20 summit at Hamburg is an indication that bilateral dialogue in a cordial atmosphere can be possible even now.

However, national security and territorial integrity is closely linked to foreign policy. Beijing is unwilling to admit that it has built roads and other infrastructure projects in a region which is disputed between China and Bhutan. So, the stand-off between India and China, as of now, is unresolved. The Indian Government must act prudently so as to deescalate the border confrontation at Dokalam.
