Halted in its own tracks, CPM wants to stop Modi

Published on:

This refers to the editorial, “Set your house in order” (November 29).  CPI(M) leader Prakash Karat appears to be living in a fool's paradise, going by his assessment and statement.

Even in Kerala and West Bengal, where the party has a somewhat reasonable hold, Mr Karat could not improve its position in the past years. What is ridiculous is that though the party's tallest leader in Kerala, Mr VS Achuthanandan, has always been taking a rebellious stand, creating a rift in the party leadership, and a number of local leaders have, many a time, sharply criticised this in politburo meetings, no action has ever been taken.

Clearly, Mr Karat is incapable of the simple task of restraining his own party leaders.Given this situation, his desire to prevent the rise of Mr Narendra Modi, a tall leader of a different party, will not have any impact on Indian politics. Still, if Mr Karat finds consolation in his hallucinations, then so be it.
