This refers to the editorial, “Don't debut with a dud” (November 4). Actor Kamal Haasan has earned countless admiration for his acting skills across the nation. In an article in a Tamil magazine Haasan reportedly claimed that “extremism has spread into the Hindu Right-wing as well”. Such irresponsible statements has wider ramifications. Haasan is simply trying to enter into the bandwagon of ‘intellectuals’ or join the group of pseudo-seculars by criticising Hindus and Hinduism.
In his eagerness to float a new political party, Haasan has been trying to swim in the dirty water of politics without offering any solutions to the nagging problems of the nation. It is a fact that despite substantial reduction in the Hindu population, Hindus are in majority in the country. If Hindus had indulged in extremism, population of other communities would not have survived. Even Islamic extremism is not indigenous. Non-state actors are playing havoc on the Indian soil. In situations like these, people like Haasan must not do anything to vitiate the atmosphere. People would like to see Haasan as a comedian rather than a politician who has no roadmap to fight against poverty, unemployment, price rise, corruption and with an innovative idea of improving infrastructures.
