Gurgaon losing sheen

Sir — This refers to the article, “‘Millennium city’ is a big mess” (August 19) by MG Devasahayam. We cannot deny that real estate prices in Gurgaon have sky-rocketed in the past and that the city remains a favourite location for urban citizens of the National Capital Region.

Also, Gurgaon has become a hub for many multinational companies which have their offices there, and for swanky ultra-luxury malls, shopping plazas and residential areas. But, sadly, basic infrastructure has not kept pace with the city, as even commuting from one place to another within has becomes onerous, especially if one does not have one’s own transport. Also in the absence of proper drainage system, many areas get flooded and parking in the office localities becomes impossible.

Though Gurgaon has Metro connectivity and the Rapid Metro Rail is also in its final stages, the city still needs a lot more basic facilities to live up to the ‘millennium city’ tag, otherwise the gulf between potential and basic infrastructure will increase further. Not the least, the toll near Ambience Mall has added to the woes of the city and made matters worse for the people who travel through it twice a day. Will the authorities address these issues expeditiouslyIJ
