Growing disillusionment

Sir — If one Zaidi stunned the world by throwing a shoe at then US President George W Bush during a Press conference, the incident closer home where Union Minister P Chidambaram had in 2009 to face the ignominy of a journalist throwing a shoe at him, shocked the Indian populace who were yet strangers to such a form of remonstration.
With social activism having been brought to such a level where people have learnt to question the policies of the Government vis-à-vis the guidelines that purport to bring succour to the common man, a few have been resourceful enough to ‘invent’ novel ways to exhibit their displeasure. The increasing incidents of ‘ink attacks’ on prominent personalities and leaders are apparently a direct consequence of this frustration.
The ink attack on Sahara chief Subrata Roy is evident of the public perception in the country with regard to wrongdoing. However, the ink smearing on the face of AAP leader Yogendra Yadav recently in Delhi appears to be indicative of the people’s disillusionment.
