Greek tragedy

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “An uncertain certainty” (July 7). Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras must have let out a sigh of relief following the referendum result, but just for the time being. The real danger is looming large on his country. Given that his Finance Minister has quit following the ‘no’ vote to the bailout terms set by the European Union, Mr Tsipras has a political battle to fight as well.

It will not be easy for him in this situation to chart out a plan for his country’s revival. He can still do business with EU members by re-negotiating the terms of fiscal help his country needs, but uncertainty will remain. The sooner the parties decide on mutually agreeable terms, the better it will be for Greece and other European countries.
