This refers to the editorial, “Chinnamma’s State” (February 7). There is no reason to suspect that the AIADMK has not checked out the lie of the land before it made an unanimous decision to anoint VK Sasikala as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. With greatness thrust on her, Sasikala is really going places. As the inheritor of Amma’s legacy, she has pledged to follow her principles and fulfill her dreams. It is a measure of her political ‘might’ that parties with divergent ideologies like the DMK, the BJP, the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have joined hands to oppose her taking up the reins of power.
It is amazing that Sasikala is fast modeling herself on Amma, imitating her dress, deportment and manner of greeting and flashing the V-sign. More amazingly, the Ministers and functionaries are fast adapting themselves to deify their new Amma. Sasikala’s roots in the Dravidian ethos and her disinclination to be seen as pro-BJP will stand her in good stead when it comes to identifying herself with the masses and relating to them.
