Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Bold, welcome verdict” (May 6). The Supreme Court has rightly awarded the death sentence to four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape and murder case. Though death to the four accused cannot bring her back but punishment, no short of death to the persons involved in brutal act, will give some sense of relief to the bereaved family. People who rob the dignity and life of others have no right to live. Incidents of similar kind weaken the case for abolition — which some activists want — of capital punishment.
