This refers to the editorial, “Virat Kohli phenomenon” (March 29). Virat Kohli deserves all the praise in the world for ensuring a semi-final berth for Team India in the ongoing T20 World Cup Cricket tournament. He has been the difference between defeat and win in two of the last four league matches India played, against Pakistan and later against Australia.
Kohli rescued the Indian team from precarious positions in both these matches and almost single-handedly won both the matches for his team. Saying that he has supreme class and determination to succeed and improve all the time, will be stating the obvious. He has an amazing hunger to win and to take on challenges, for himself and for the Indian team.
Having said that it is highly unfair of people to compare him with Sachin Tendulkar. Yes, if someone has it in him to reach to Tendulkar’s level at present, it is this Delhi lad, Virat Kohli, but he should be left alone and allowed to enjoy the game to the fullest. That is how he will reach even greater heights and bring more glory to the game and to India.
