Sir — Jacques Kallis will go down as arguably the greatest all-rounder in Test cricket, a notch above greats of yesteryears such as Gary Sobers, Kapil Dev, Richard Hadlee, Imran Khan and Ian Botham, given the fact that he scored more than 13,000 runs and took 292 wickets. let’s also not forget that he bucketed 200 catches in Test cricket. If one were to put together runs scored by Kapil Dev and Imran Khan in Tests, Kallis’s total would be higher.
Despite his colossal achievements, Kallis has worn his greatness lightly. He was the fulcrum of South African cricket for nearly 18 years and yet remained humble and mellow in his disposition. This is the mark of a great man.
