Sir — This refers to the report, “Kerala Church welcomes Uniform Civil Code move” (July 4). In a secular democracy, all religions enjoy equal rights, nevertheless, they remain under the supremacy of the elected Government. Religion deserves only secondary significance and the regime can exercise its unassailable right and power if any religion violates the fundamental rights guaranteed in the Constitution. Embarrassingly, the Congress’ outlook in the issue is tantamount to religious chauvinism, apparently jeopardising the prosperity and peace of the nation.
