Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Governance comes first” (September 20). Political uncertainty is plaguing Tamil Nadu since the death of J Jayalalithaa. But the power struggle within the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) took a new turn when Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal disqualified 18 MlAs supporting dissident leader TTV Dhinakaran. There is no guessing what counter-step Dhinakaran, egged on by his jailed aunt VK Sasikala would take to retrieve lost ground. But for now, the Dhinakaran faction has taken the disqualification issue to the Madras High Court.
The people of Tamil Nadu are exasperated enough that they are now waiting for fresh election, which in normal course, is nearly four years away. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is waiting in the wings in the hope of gaining power from the AIADMK whenever the election takes place and enjoying the situation as the principal Opposition. Now that Kamal Hassan started his political journey, one wonders whether he can easily essay the character of a politician without playing ‘dirty politics’.
