The Narendra Modi-led NDA Government, with an efficient stewardship, has completed three years. The report card is somewhat mixed. In the employment sector the performance is not satisfactory, since job-creation has virtually stagnated in the formal sectors. Kashmir is on the boil, though there is an elected Government of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (PDP-BJP) Government there. Pakistan still remains to be taught a good lesson, for we still remain soft on terror-generators. The behaviour of China too is causing concern. Farmer suicides are on the rise. Farmers do not get a fair deal from the Government, nor is the industry adequately modernised. Investments and industrialisation are yet to materialise properly.
On the other hand, prices of edible items have seen a downward trend. Onions and pulses’ crises were handled by the Government efficiently. The cleaning of Ganga has taken shape. That there has been no corruption reported against the Government in the past three years, is an achievement. Above all, the Prime Minister withstood the criticism from the Opposition on intolerance and demonetisation. The charisma of Modi is on the increase and should see an upward rise in the coming years.
