Sir — This refers to the editorial, “One more big chance” (May 14). Pakistan Muslim league (N) leader Nawaz Sharif’s return to power is good news for India, especially since he has also promised that he will start from where he and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had left the dialogue.
Relations between the two nations hit a low in recent times in the wake of Sarabjit Singh’s death in a Pakistani prison and Sanaullah’s in Jammu’s Kot Balwal jail. One hopes that Mr Sharif will keep his word and take the relationship between the two countries in a positive direction.
Also, Mr Sharif faces the big challenge to restore peace in his own restive nation and keep the Taliban at bay. The voters in Pakistan have shown their faith in him and democracy, which he must honour. Hopefully, he will not make the mistake of the past establishment of treating India as an enemy.
