This refers to the editorial, “Nawab of modern cricket” (October 22). Virender Sehwag’s retirement from international cricket brings an end to his glorious career that spanned more than 100 Test matches and 250 one-day internationals.
Sehwag will be remembered for his unorthodox yet impressive and graceful batting style that made him the first triple-century-maker in India’s Test match history. He was a joy to watch when in full flow; that’s when he accumulated runs in a heap.
He, alongside Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and VVS laxman, was the pillar of Indian batting for many years. Now, with Sehwag’s retirement, a glorious phase of Indian batting has come to an end.
