This refers to the editorial, “In words we don't trust” (April 5). Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has blamed, as usual, the allies for the failures of his Government and struck optimism.
But Congress-scion Rahul Gandhi blamed the system that is being followed for 65-odd years. His much-expected maiden speech at the CII annual meet may have disappointed all and sundry. But the common man can take solace that the Congress's ‘heir apparent' has some concern for him. Mr Gandhi's speech was almost on the lines of his acceptance speech at the Chintan Shivir in Jaipur, minus the optimism.
He was frank in admitting the failure of the present system of governance, that growth after independence was not “inclusive” and that it needs to cater the aspirations of the millions of Indians, the younger generation, in particular. His remark that no one will come on a white horse to set everything right, interpreted as a swipe at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, was in fact, a warning to his fellow partymen who nurture the hope in Mr Gandhi as the saviour of the party.
