Sir — The news of actor Salman Khan getting respite from the Bombay High Court in the infamous hit-and-run case, has sent a wave of happiness among millions of his fans across the country and abroad, not to mention his family and friends. The prosecution’s reported comment vis-à-vis this relief, that hundreds of culprits accused of minor thefts and bribes are languishing in jails, doesn’t carry much weight. Some of these people are habitual offenders. They cannot be equated with Salman Khan. The actor did commit a mistake in the form of an accident which claimed an innocence life. Anyway, the ball is again in the High Court which has admitted an appeal against the superstar’s conviction. It remains to be seen which way the wind blows.
