Gender justice

Sir — This refers to the editorial. “End of the flossy inequity” (November 12). Outlandishly, tinseltown, where even the sensitive issue of religion is no bar in the face of aspiration and achievement, the starkest inequity against females has for long been going on, with the so-called champions of women’s rights looking the other way. Better late than never, the Supreme Court’s verdict directing the Cine Costume Makeup Artists and Hairdressers Association to allow women as its members, has come across as a judicial reprimand to male chauvinism.

Ms Charu Khurana, who persevered in her years-long fight against the prevailing gender discrimination, will enhance the morale of other female members who long to join the association. They never deserved to have the doors shut on them simply because they were women. If they can prove their competence, there is no reason why they cannot rise in their profession. One more male bastion has fallen.
