Game on

Sir — This refers to the article, “An election with no winner” (May 24) by Bindu Dalmia. Since every election is a semi-final to the 2019 General Election, then the result to the election in Karnataka has opened the flood gates for parties to attain power, by hook or crook.

It is a general belief in the country that whosoever wins the Karnataka election, loses the General Election the following year and history coincides with this. But this year’s result, with a fractured mandate, has thrown no winners, rather the losers stood tall.

Moreover, HD Kumaraswamy’s oath ceremony has shown a glimpse into the 2019 election and how the alliance factory is going to resist the Modi juggernaut. The role and the institution of the President can be of supreme importance in the future due to a prediction of a coalition-led Government and who would he invite to form it.

With foe becoming friends in West Bengal (Trinamool Congress and the Communist Party of India), Uttar Pradesh (Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party), Maharashtra (Congress and Nationalist Congress Party), the possibility of a Federal Front has manifolded with an acceptance of Congress-led Rahul Gandhi leading from the front.

The Amit Shah school of election management, which has India’s most formidable election machinery, has realised that their politics of attaining power at any cost can boomerang in the upcoming State elections and, hence, BS Yeddyurappa resigned even before the floor test took place.

The BJP rides on the clean image of Prime Minister Modi and reverts every rhetoric of the Congress with the numerous scams of the latter. Somewhere, the BJP feels they might be able to do a Bihar in Karnataka but lately, the Congress has also started working with local leaders, making way for an anti-BJP wave.
