Sir — This refers to the article, “Politics and more in Rohith’s sad suicide” (January 26) by Sandhya Jain. It is a sorry state of affairs that a promising young scholar from an underprivileged background was pushed to end his life. University authorities and the Ministry of Human Resource Development behaved in an extremely insensitive manner. In light of the upcoming elections, this incident should be a wake-up call for the BJP Government. Even though the Prime Minister expressed profound grief over the suicide of the Dalit scholar, much needs to be done to gain the support of the weaker sections of society.
