This refers to the editorial, “Electrifying Delhi roads” (December 8). It is heartening that Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari has been inspired by london Mayor and he wants to emulate
practices of the British Capital as far as electric buses are concerned. Though in his constituency Nagpur, he has already created the necessary infrastructure for electric vehicles and the city is soon to become the first one in the country with electric mass mobility, with more than 50 charging points at various places, the same effort is needed to be put in the case of the capital.
With this experience, I am sure, Gadkari will be able to replicate the london model here in the national capital to ease out both traffic jams and pollution. However, what must be kept in mind is that there should be last mile connectivity through these electric buses and the Delhi Government should be on board in any such move to make this a successful initiative for the people of the National Capital Region. last but not the least, in terms of opposition to any such move like the Opposition did for bullet train, Gadkari is famous for his hard taskmaster approach and with Nagpur’s experience, he should silence his critics.
