Sir — This refers to the article, “Visva Bharati needs a healing touch” (October 13) by Anirban Ganguly. The university’s decline is a case study of great leaders who could not draw within their folds equally great followers that could provide leadership on an ongoing basis.
The next generation of leaders need to bathe in the entire vision, understand and internalise it and take it forward with their own understanding continuously enriching it. The ability to understand the woods and then drill down to the trees is not a commonly seen capacity.
Therefore, great leaders should keep the urgency of gathering the right next generation of leaders always at the forefront of their minds, and they need to look far and wide away from their immediate circle. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the same challenge. Hopefully, he will successfully pass the baton to brighter people when the appropriate time comes.
