Sir — This refers to the report, “If mistakes made, BJP will say sorry to Muslims: Rajnath” (February 26).
This is a large-hearted gesture by the BJP to reach out to the Muslim community. While there is growing evidence that a certain percentage of the community, particularly in Gujarat, is softening its attitude towards the BJP, the bulk still seems to be swayed by fundamentalist clerics and motivated propaganda of the party’s political opponents. Hence, any attempt by the BJP leadership to extend its hand of friendship is likely to be seen with a measure of suspicion and even an admission of guilt.
