Sir — Even as India celebrated yet another Independence Day, as many as 40 million people continue to live a life of slavery and misery as bonded labourers in this country.
India is home to 56 per cent of the world’s total bonded labourers, according to the IlO, even though the Bonded labour System Abolition Act was passed back in 1976. Yet, this reprehensible practice continues. It should be our collective endeavour to educate the people about this social ill and create awareness against the illegal and immoral practice.
