Forgotten hero

Published on:

Sir— How can a nation think of a proud and vibrant future if it ignores and insults the chapters of its proud historyIJ Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (born on May 28, 1883) is one such unique hero who has been mischievously not only been ignored and insulted, but also that there has been an attempt of character assassination. The dedicated nationalist and the chief source of inspiration to almost all revolutionaries who fought for Indian independence has been completely forgotten in the books of Indian history, thanks to the hypothesis of giving absolute credit of the nation’s independence to Gandhi-Nehru led Congress. The talented writer and thinker, who suffered enormous physical and mental torture at cellular jail for his book, Indian War of Independence 1857, has been erased from the memory of Indian minds.

Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, who is passionately embracing the Kashmiri separatists, removed a plaque with Savarkar’s name at the Andaman & Nicobar Island’s Cellular Jail. The nationalists expect the BJP Government to reinstate his lost glory.
