Foreign interference

Sir — This refers to the article, “Nepal’s Maoists will have to see reason” (December 25) by Ashok K Mehta. Indian diplomats are accused of blatantly taking sides in Nepal.
This has led to domestic disaffection, made worse by the abject failure of the Nepali leadership to preserve the national interest. Though Nepal is a small country, it is home to many ethnic groups. Their national aspirations can’t be met by belittling any one of them.
Also, the reality is that there is already much foreign interference in Nepal. Even in national elections, outside powers such as China, India, America and European nations seem to have a say. The candidate may be Nepali, but will he work for a sovereign NepalIJ We must go back to the institution of monarchy and enthrone the King.
