This refers to the report, “Rohit Sharma at Eden rules ODI with 264” (November 14). There is no doubt that Rohit Sharma’s feat of a second double century in one-day internationals is an extraordinary one and, if not impossible, would be difficult to match. He deserves credit for achieving this record in his first match after returning from an injury. Till four years ago, a 200 in a one-day international match was considered a dream feat to be achieved, but since then, it has been done four times. Now, even 300 runs look possible!
Thanks to the emergence of T20, cricket has got tilted towards batsmen, unfairly though. This is not to take anything away from Rohit Sharma, but the Sri lankan team looks like club class and nowhere close to its very competitive side. Beating an off-colour Sri lanka does not mean we are well-prepared for the forthcoming World Cup. We cannot allow complacency to set in.
