Sir — This refers to the news report, “Government details steps proposed to insulate CBI from politics” (July 3).
The proposals are an offshoot of the Supreme Court’s directive, and in the course of the hearing, the CBI will doubtless put across its own points of view on the proposals. However, this is an issue affecting not merely the CBI and the Government, but the country too. It is essential for the smooth functioning of a democratic polity and bipartisan conduct of the premier investigating agency, that the CBI remains free of Government control.
