Foodgrain damage at FCI far below figures given

Published on:

This refers to the editorial, “How to fight drought” (June 17). A wrong estimation of 40 per cent damage in Food Corporation of India godowns has been mentioned. Since I have worked with the FCI for a long time, I had sent you the factual position on the basis of an audited report of the FCI for the year 2011-12 (available on the website www.fciweb.nic.in) in which loss was only 0.48 per cent.

During this period the corporation moved 367.94 lakh MT of stocks from one place to the other in every nook and corner of the country, with only 0.23 per cent of transit loss.losses during storage and transit depend on many things, but they have never been as high as projected in the editorial, giving a completely wrong picture. Neither did you publish my letter nor issue a corrigendum accepting the error. This is not acceptable and against the ethics of fair journalism.
