Sir — This refers to the article, “Discrimination in the name of secularism” (July 1) by Balbir Punj. The article is nothing but a means for the writer to criticise the secular Congress.
It is significant, however, that his own party finds it difficult to muster the votes of the minorities by failing to allay their apprehensions. But, all the political parties must share the blame for pursuing populist vote-bank politics and not just the Congress.
The writer is correct in pointing out that the politics of appeasement is fraught with dangerous consequences. Parties must desist from this and instead focus on growth and development for the larger good of the country.
