Flawed law

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Recast juvenile justice” (July 16). The punishment should be dependent on the gravity of the crime which a juvenile has committed rather than on his/her age.

This belief has been strengthened after the 2012 Delhi gang rape case. The juvenile was said to have been the most brutal in the attack and rape. But he got just three years in a reform home. Now that Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi has raised the issue, hopefully, there will be some changes.
