This refers to reports that US President Barack Obama has proposed a $804 million aid to Pakistan. The package includes $534 million civilian and $270 million military aid. THe US has hailed Pakistan “a key partner on counter-terrorism and nuclear non-proliferation goals”. The US aid relationship with Pakistan began in 1950s when the Cold War with the Soviet Union was at its peak. Pakistan became an eager ally in the US's military alliances, to gain military ascendance against its arch enemy, India.
One had hoped that the US Government headed by Mr Obama would review its military aid policy to promote neighbourly peace and harmony. Sadly, it has not occurred to the US leadership that, with all its huge billions of dollars of civilian and military aid, it has few friends in that Islamic country. Most Pakistanis dislike the US. Its massive largesse has mostly helped the military and civilian elite to become corrupt, arrogant and powerful.
