Fear missing

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Saga of shame continues” (November 30). Outlandishly, despite countrywide protests over rampant violence against women, incidents of rape and sexual molestation refuse to taper off.
Besides the Tehelka episode, we have the Assam incident. You have rightly said that, but for the locals who blocked a National Highway to protest the incident wherein three perpetrators dumped a 31-year-old woman after allegedly gang-raping her in an auto-rickshaw, the horrific story would have gone largely unnoticed by the media, which was preoccupied with the Tarun Tejpal issue.
The incident approximates to the December16 gang rape case that happened in Delhi last year. It is shocking that despite the stringent anti-rape provisions which have been put in place after that episode, similar atrocities continue to take place. Clearly, the fear of the law has not gone into heads of criminals.
