Faulty system

Sir — This refers to the article, “Certainly not humble. HonestIJ Not too sure” (October 29) by A Surya Prakash. What is disturbing is not just the corruption itself but other underlying features of the episode too.
First, the brazen manner in which the rulers have been able to bulldoze the Opposition and investigations. Dishonesty masquerading as humility is far more dangerous than undisguised roguery, because it deceives the gullible and provides continued opportunity to swindle. It mocks at those crusading against daylight robbery. Witness the respect and dignity with which the rulers are still treated by the media instead of being socially ostracised.
The second disturbing factor is that our democratic institutions have been distorted to the extent that, while corruption is acknowledged, the allegedly corrupt are not brought to book by the Government in power because it needs political favours from such people.
