Farmers' protest

Published on:

Sir — It was distressing to see farmers spilling milk and vegetables on streets in protest to try and force the government to accede to their demands. Unfortunately in India, contemporary protests have become extremely violent and unpleasant in nature thereby making it difficult for law enforcing agencies to confront protestors because the latter often take law into their own hands and vandalize public and private property.

This is a serious problem because law enforcement agencies often use restraint instead of force because of the fear of protests turning more violent. India therefore needs adequate mechanisms to deal with such situations.
