Sir — This refers to the editorial, “End of an alliance” (June 21). The PDP-BJP pre-poll alliance in Jammu & Kashmir, which helped them form the Government way back in 2014, was as bizarre as is BJP’s abrupt pull-out, given their four-year-old bonhomie.
The marriage of two bed-fellows, polls apart on ideological grounds, was dogged by severe castigation in the State and the national political quarters alike. Nevertheless, some political analysts were of the opinion that the coalition in Jammu & Kashmir was, despite the divergence of ideologies, in the best interests of the people of the Valley in light of the fact that one of the partners had also formed the Central Government. Hence, the BJP was morally and dutifully bound to do a world of good to uplift the State and its people in terms of allocation and sanction of the funds without any hindrance.
Sadly, the much-hyped alliance fell apart without achieving the target ‘vision’ of bringing peace and prosperity back to the State because the two parties couldn’t agree on whether the ceasefire should be extended or not.
