Sir — The blatant and barbaric attack by terrorists on the office of the Paris-based satirical weekly, Charlie Hebdo, that killed 12 people, has been condemned by the international community with united force. The act of Islamist terrorism and subversion are burgeoning unabatedly in almost all parts of the world. There are some countries which not only nurture and nourish terrorism, but breed it under state patronage. Western countries including the US undoubtedly are aware of the sponsorship of extremist outfits, but instead of imposing sanctions against those countries, they are assisting them with money.
It is true that some Gulf countries are funding the growth of extremist forces. The rise of terrorism could not have been possible without financial help by prosperous Arab countries. It is time the West looked seriously into the issue and cracked down on some of its so-called allies that are promoting terror, directly or indirectly.
