Facing consequences

Published on:

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Breaking with Europe” (June 25). After 43 years of being a part of the European Union, Britain has decided to exit. Though it is going to be a long process of negotiation with the EU, on terms of withdrawal, till then Britain has to abide by EU’s treaties and laws.  Off course, the EU will lose its global clout and threat of more exits from remaining 27 countries cannot be completely ruled out.

Germany and France have a very strong role to play, if the EU has to remain united. Impact on India may not be severe, considering the fact that we are an import economy not majorly into exports. But yes Indian companies like Tata, which manufactures in the UK, will have to face serious consequences of the Brexit as free movement of goods in the EU will not be there anymore. Tata will be forced to review it’s UK operation. Yes, students and travellers to london will feel relieved, at least for some time as their stay can get cheaper now.
