This refers to the opinion piece, “let guns do the talking” (May 28) by Chandan Mitra. You have demanded a full-throttle bullet action against the Maoists for their recent killings in Chhattisgarh. If actions taken through force yielded worthwhile results, the problem would have not spread across the country. And now the Frankenstein is targeting those very politicians who are responsible for the sorry state of affairs.
Isn't it worth pondering over why the Maoists are able to garner local support to survive and hit their targets with impunityIJ And why the Government has failed to gain the confidence of the people even after more than 60 years of independenceIJ The answer is simple: A corrupt and inept administration has helped the disgruntled groups to breed and spread their influence. The fruits of development have not reached a sizeable section of society. People are being denied and cheated at the behest of industrial houses through corrupt bureaucrats and politicians. It is worth introspecting on how the Ramakrishna Mission can work in these areas where Government is not allowedIJ How much blood will be spilled if ‘an eye for an eye' policy is pursuedIJ
