Sir — Caution-notes against the possibility of over-occupying costly hotel rooms in five-starred hotels in New Delhi by newly elected Members of Parliament, as per an unhealthy past tradition, were lodged with the Union Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Union Ministry for Urban Development in June 2014. It is shameful that these cautions were overlooked, with several MPs enjoying the luxury.
It is a crime against public morality and a fraud on the public exchequer, for which the erring parliamentarians deserve exemplary punishment. A system can be devolved by which these MPs can, till they get an official accommodation, stay in the guest-houses that belong to the States and various public sector undertakings.
