Sir — This refers to the report, “UN chief for diplomatic solution on Syria” (August 29). As long as Russia, China and Iran support the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, diplomatic solutions will continue to elude that country. Ironically, had Russia learnt a lesson after the disintegration of the former USSR, it would not have supported the despotic al-Assad-led Government which is killing hundreds of its own people.
Russia should not pave the way for another cold war and an arms race which would prove detrimental to peace.
